Just what the world needs–another movie about a blow-it-up-yourself, teenaged army.
“Red Dawn” is basically a spin on all those Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney movies; where one of them says, “Hey kids! Let’s make a show! We can do it if we all work together!” But instead of putting on a show to show pompous adults “a thing or two,” the “Red Dawn” leaders say: “Hey kids! Let’s make an army! We can do it if we all kill together!”
The producers of the rebooted “Red Dawn” action flick hope that the movie shoots for the stars because it has no stars. That is, the money-men behind this mini-militia movie are betting that the paying public will see it based on gun/ammo power and not star power. This is the explosive “hook” they hope will suck in movie-goers.
But what happens if the movie sucks?
Will it weigh down star Chris Hemsworth; worse than the hammer he held in “Thor?”
Will it keep the majority of them on the “supporting actor/actress” treadmill they are currently stuck on?
This cast includes rising stars Josh Hutcherson (Peeta Mellark in “The Hunger Games”), Adrianne Palicki (best known for her role as Tyra Collette on NBC’s “Friday Night Lights”) and of course, that long-struggling actor, the 17 year old Connor Cruise. Hopefully, if this film is a hit, no longer will the poor lad have to go home to a cold water flat paid for by his parents, Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman. Connor no doubt shares his living space with millions—of his dad’s Thetans. Boy, did Tom C. hit the jackpot when of all the kids in the world he could’ve adopted, he adopted a baby who grew up to have the wherewithal and the unbelievable drive to score a part in a major motion picture on talent alone and not his last name. Yeah, right…and Sean Lennon is a great musician too!
Then again, the original “Red Dawn” in 1984 was a smash and it had a no name cast (Patrick Swayze, C. Thomas Howell etc.) back in the day, who became big names. This cast also included the then 19 year old Charlie Sheen; who now sees many a red dawn before he finally goes to sleep.
In time, they’ll probably be a “Blue Dawn,” when Democrats have the final say in the White House and—wait. It’s being filmed now!
