We hear Natalie Portman is back from maternity leave and personally I am not allowing her to have any more babies for a while (sorry Aleph, you are adorable), because let’s face it, no one makes a movie like Natalie does. She has been my favorite ever since she flashed her plain Jane passport and proceeded down that crowded New York street to Damien Rice in ‘Closer’ and most likely always will be. Her roles have always been pivotal and judging by the context clues of these next two, it appears she is coming back with a double whammy.
Both films slated for Natalie are coincidentally written and produced by Terrence Malick, and are expected to be released in 2013. While the plot lines have been kept quiet, her costars are clearly just a few no name actors, like hunky Ryan Gosling or bad ass dragon tattoo-ed Rooney Mara in ‘Lawless’ and Cate Blanchett and Christian Bale in ‘Knight of Cups’. Someone in casting got it right. Twice.
The rumor mill has led me to believe that Malick was spotted with Bale researching and possibly shooting at music venues down in Texas. Could it be a biography of a musician and if so, who? Also, since Portman is the only actor doubly cast, are the movies related or has Portman become to Malick what Scarlett Johansson was to Allen. Although if we’re furthering that Algebra equation, we hear Johansson is someone else’s muse these days. More to come on that directorial debut, but for now we are just happy to see Natalie’s face on the silver screen again.
