For his new and highly anticipated shoot-’em-up, kill-‘em-all movie, ‘The Expendables,’ Sylvester Stallone has assembled a dream team of action heroes, like no other. In a sit down with Entertainment Tonight, the legendary actor/director offers his take on the male brain:
“Men are different: They’re like big kids to the very end, and at the very end they’re big kids with arthritis; they just don’t change,” says Sly about the team spirit of ‘The Expendables.’ “I wanted to bring that camaraderie, that brotherhood, to a film, and that hadn’t been done for awhile.”
‘The Expendables’ follows a group of mercenaries on a mission to overthrow a South American dictator. The top action-movie cast joining Sly include, Dolph Lundgren, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Randy Couture, Steve Austin, Mickey Rourke, Terry Crews and Eric Roberts – with appearances by Bruce Willis and Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. Yep, all in one movie.
And what happens when these Hollywood hot shots get together on the same film set? “Luckily we didn’t have any divas except for me,” Sly says of his co-stars, joking, “Everyone was lining up to break my neck, saying, ‘Who’s going to kill him today if he gets an attitude?’ And you had a crew that could do it.”
On getting Willis and Schwarzenegger to do a scene together, Stallone admits, “We were very nervous. … When you’re standing face-to-face with someone who has actually been a very competitive person with you, and now it’s on, you go, ‘Jesus, be careful what you wish for.’ But it all worked out. … They impact the room.”
“The Expendables” arrive in theaters August 13
