Nicholas Hoult (pictures here posing for TOM FORD‘s Fall/Winter eyewear), has been confirmed, reports Deadline, to star in the title role for Jack the Giant Killer, director Bryan Singer’s scary retelling of the Jack and the Beanstalk. Perhaps an easier shoe in for the part, since the actor just finished filming X-Men: First Class, which Singer produced. Prior to the decision, were actors Aaron Johnson, Max Irons, and Alex Pettyfer hoping to score the role.
Story: after the kingdom’s princess has been kidnapped, the balance of peace between humans and giants is tipped. Jack, a young farmer, leads the way, entering enemy territory to rescue the princess.
Cast as villains are actors Bill Nighy, Stanley Tucci and John Kassir. Tucci plays the conspiring adviser to the king, having power-hungry wishes of his own, while Nighy and Kassir play the two-headed leader of the giants.
As for the princess, it too has been an audition process, still continuing, where actresses Adelaide Kane, Lily Collins and Juno Temple all have read for the part.
Up next for the rising actor is filming Mad Max: Fury Road in 2012. Hoult is best known as the young boy in, well, About A Boy, and for his memorable supporting role in Tom Ford’s 2009 film A Single Man. No release date announced for “Jack” as of yet.
