After colaborating with Rick Rubin on their last album “Minutes to Midnight,” Linkin Park must have liked the experience, because they are back to have another go at it, teaming up with the super-producer again, for their new album “A Thousand Suns” – due to release on Sept 14, with the first single “The Catalyst” arriving on Aug 2, reports Rolling Stone.
Rubin was the one who moved the band away from their signature rap-rock sound and helped them find a new sound on their previous LP.
“On the last record, Rick’s challenge was getting us to open up our perception of what our music could be,” singer Chester Bennington tells Rolling Stone. “This time we realized it doesn’t matter what the songs sound like. If we like it and it comes from us, it’s Linkin Park.”
It looks like “A Thousand Suns” is going to be quite eclectic, with lyrics touching on a wide range of subjects; from the recession to the trouble in the Mid-East. One untitled track has the industrial rock-punk style of Nine Inch Nails, and another track carries a solid hip-hop beat beneath Bennington’s powerful vocal performance.
