Leonard Nimoy honored by Company of Angels
On Saturday, Oct 17, 2009, Company of Angels (CoA), co-founded in 1959 by actor Leonard Nimoy, celebrated its 50th Anniversary as Los Angeles’ oldest non profit professional theater now headquartered at the historic Alexandria Hotel in downtown LA. To celebrate this occasion in the history of Los Angeles Theater, CoA honored actor Leonard Nimoy in a charity gala, for his role as a founding member. Veteran actor Robert Ellenstein was also honored. The gala was produced by actress Marlene Forte who sits on the board of CoA as Artistic Director. Marlene Forte was recently seen on the big screen beaming people away as the first Latina Chief Transporter in JJ Abrams’ blockbuster film “Star Trek”. The Leonard Nimoy Angel Award, named after the legendary actor, is an award bestowed on individuals and/or organizations that have made significant contributions to theater in Los Angeles, and to Company of Angels, in particular. When asked about his future plans and the new horizon for the Star Trek franchise Mr. Nimoy responded: “Up! There is only one way to go and that’s up.” During the gala, the actors’ famous Mr. Spock ears went on auction on e-bay
