Lee Daniels who is up for Best Director and Best Picture with “Precious” says the film has changed him for the better and he hopes the same happens with everyone who sees the picture. In case you live under a rock, “Precious” tells the tale of an overweight, African American teen in 1987 Harlem. Gaby Sidibe plays the role of an unloved, abused, young mother flawlessly. Daniels says it’s easy to ignore those who look like Precious on the streets. We look the other way and choose not to engage because of how that person looks. Daniels says, “For me, it’s made me look at her – not just a black girl but an unattractive person, or what the media says is an unattractive person. It makes me take a look at these people as people. I hope that “Precious” does that for everybody else too.” This golden goodie that screams “don’t judge a book by its cover” is nominated for six Academy Awards. – C. Reeves
