Johnny Galecki signs on for what is suddenly thrown around as his “first role” in a major feature since becoming a star on “The Big Bang Theory.” First role? Either the Hollywood machine being a tad harsh on the working actor or using the words as a P.R. gimmick.
Reported by Hollywood Reporter, Galecki is joining the cast of “I’m Mortal,” directed by Andrew Niccol (“Gattaca”). The sci-fi saga whose cast includes Justin Timberlake, Amanda Seyfried and Olivia Wilde is set in the future where aging has been stopped, and time is the new commodity. The rich can live forever, and the rest must struggle to negotiate mortality and how much time they have left on the planet.
Galecki will portray Timberlake’s best friend, a screw-up with a drinking problem who wastes all of his family’s available time.
While this isn’t the first film role Galecki has booked in his career — the “Roseanne” vet had small parts in “Vanilla Sky” and more recently “Hancock.” The new role is the first one in a major movie since “Big Bang Theory” aired in 2007.
