Emma Watson is the fourth richest person in the U.K. under the age of 30, according to HEAT Magazine. With an estimated fortune of $42.4 million, Watson has done very well for herself as Hermione Granger, the spunky classmate of Harry Potter. Her role in HARRY POTTER also happened to be her very first film role!
For over a decade, the public has watched her grow up on the big screen. We’ve watched her struggle at Brown University (she plans to return in 2013 to finish her degree), and we’ve watched her blossom as a young woman. At the ripe old age of 22, she can afford to choose roles that interest her. And like many other actors who’ve made their money through a successful franchise, Watson has chosen indie roles that give her the opportunity to broaden her range and practice her craft. The English beauty is also the face of Lancome.
Her first lead role post-POTTER was this fall’s highly acclaimed PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER, a coming of age story set in Pittsburgh. The film was a challenge for Watson who obviously had never experienced American high school and had to nail an American accent. The glowing reviews said it all! Although in its limited release PERKS has grossed $15 million, Watson has been unfailing in her support, dutifully promoting the film on the talk show circuit, and attending her very first film festival in Toronto last September for the PERKS premiere. (By comparison, her previous film, HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS: Part 2 grossed $381 million in the U.S.) It was Watson’s attachment to PERKS that helped get the film made.
But that kind of success and Young Hollywood clout comes at a certain price. The beautiful Watson has had her share of stalkers and overzealous fans. Recently while shooting on Long Island, Watson was confronted by a man who had been following her.
Next up for Watson is THE BLING RING, written and directed by indie queen Sofia Coppola and then she reunites with her PERKS co-star, Logan Lerman in Darren Aronofsky’s NOAH (yes, the Noah and the Ark story).
If you missed PERKS in the theaters, it comes out on video February 12, 2013.
And just in case you’re wondering, Emma Watson’s HARRY POTTER co-stars have also been doing very well!
