There’s something wrong in Hollyweird when co-stars break with traditional niceties and openly criticize each other.
In this celebrity feud: Alec Baldwin and Shia LaBeouf were ready to co-star on Broadway in ORPHANS, but LaBeouf abruptly departed because of “creative differences” – that’s Hollywoodspeak for “we’re not getting along.”
That would have been the end of that. Lots of stars change their minds about projects if they don’t get along with a director or co-star, but Baldwin decided to diss LaBeouf in an interview, comparing him to a celebrity chef.
Now in the entertainment industry, there’s always been an inherent snobbery, with movie stars on the top of the food chain, then TV stars. Reality TV stars are a relatively new phenom. But above them all are theater snobs who’ve always equated the best acting skills to the actors who can perform in front of a live audience night after night.
LaBeouf didn’t take too well to being compared to a celebrity chef. He tweeted links to email correspondance between him and Baldwin and ORPHANS director Daniel Sullivan which seemed to show that it was Baldwin who wasn’t prepared for rehearsals.
LaBeouf, 26, is well known for being hyper, high energy and enthusiastic with his roles. He’s an A-lister with the box office numbers and accolades to match. He has the TRANSFORMER franchise, and critical acclaim for his indie films. He’s delved into research and commits wholeheartedly. Witness his recent decision to go the full monty in a music video for Sigur Ros, and his next movie role in the X-rated NYMPHOMANIAC.
And Alec Baldwin? Well, he’s known for a nasty divorce with Kim Basinger, his leaked temper tantrum voice mail to his daughter, his celebrity outrage about having to comply with airline regulations (those rules apply to me?), and his second marriage to a yoga instructor 100 years his junior who is currently expecting his new daughter. He clashes with paparazzi on a regular basis, and allegedly used racial epithets recently at photographer.
To be fair, Baldwin, at 55, does have an Oscar nomination for a film called THE COOLER. Ever heard of it? Didn’t think so. And his second wife Hilaria is not 100 years his junior. She’s Shia’s age.
So Team Baldwin or Team LaBeouf? First victory goes to LaBeouf who is obviously more tech savvy – better be careful about your emails and tweets, Alec. You got owned!
