Here is a first look at Chris Evans in his superhero getup on the cover of Entertainment Weekly.
Captain America: The First Avenger will open on July 22 of next year – OK, so it’s 18 days after our patriotic July 4th, but I say better late than never.
In the EW’s PopWatch, Evans explains his initial hesitance about taking the role:
“I’ve made some spotty films in the past, and I didn’t want another one on this scale,” admitting that he turned the part down three times.
“At the time, I remember telling a buddy of mine, ‘If the movie bombs, I’m f—-ed. If the movie hits, I’m f—-ed”
However, Evans decided to meet with Marvel execs and director Joe Johnston (“The Wolfman”) and was impressed by the approach and the overall roadmap for the movie. “I was just scared,” he says. “I realized my whole decision making process was fear based, and you never want to make a decision out of fear.’”
As for now, Evans has signed a six-picture deal with Marvel to play the character, without any regrets: “I can’t believe was almost too chicken to play Captain America.”
He looks damn good in the super-soldier red-white-and-blue. Dontcha’ think??
