“Harry Potter” ingenue and burgeoning fashion maven Emma Watson has put her college education briefly on the back burner. The 20-year-old found that juggling her coursework at Brown University with her film career and other promo duties too hectic.
“I love Brown and I love studying pretty much more than anything but recently I’ve had so much to juggle,” she wrote in an entry posted to her official website this week.
Watson is finishing up “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2” and other “professional and acting projects,” she explained. “I will still be working towards my degree—it’s just going to take me a semester or two longer than I thought.”
Gossip website Gawker warns that for every Natalie Portman who earned a degree there are plenty of others—Jessica Biel, Claire Danes, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, an Olsen twin—who left college to return to the spotlight and never looked back. “Ah, well. At least there’s James Franco, who’s probably earning enough degrees on his own to make up for all the other young celebrities combined,” they snarked.
Trivia note: Watson has earned a pretty penny modeling for Burberry (the campaign included her brother Alex). In 2009, she partnered as a creative consultant with People Tree, a fair-trade fashion label. The latest development is the Pure Threads organic, eco-friendly fashion collection designed in collaboration with Alberta Ferretti.
