Celebrity Buzz: it’s not really a secret that Jennifer Lawrence is about to skyrocket to mega stardom. Anyone with ears has heard of the Hunger Games at this point. Yet there is some part of it that feels clairvoyant anyway. Like I am a star voyeur peaking in the fame making factory. This girl went from your average New York/LA still-auditioning actor to landing the biggest role of 2012. I’m certainly jealous. The Louisville, Kentucky born 21 year-old is about to be on the ride of her life.
I had the pleasure of reading the Hunger Games way before it was trendy and being a writer myself, I usually don’t accredit other writers. However, Suzanne Collins is one gifted scribbler. Not just in the, she has the imagination but the writing is sub-par kind of way, that I am used to reading. Not even close. What’s even more of a rarity, is that the visual match up from what I have seen of the film, is spot on. Exactly how I envisioned the casting to the cinematography to the make-up is what I have been watching unfold. If this movie is even close to the novel, Jennifer Lawrence has arrived.
If you have not read the book, I will simply state that my first impression upon reading, was that there was no way the powers that be would allow this on the shelves. Let alone theaters. It certainly does some envelope pushing in my opinion in terms of young adult. Might be the whole killing of two dozen children in detail thing that tipped me off. Somehow, the book managed to tactfully kill everyone. Which was a feat in and of itself.
Lawrence plays Katniss Everdeen, the books modest archer tom-boy hero with a braid. She volunteers to take the place of her younger sister in the annual Government-mandated (and televised) death-match known as the Hunger Games. Well played Katniss, well played.
The Hunger Games Opens in theaters and IMAX on March 23,
