VENICE praising Natalie Portman in “Black Swan”

Critics are praising Natalie Portman in Darren Aronofsky’s “Black Swan,” a ballet thriller (a Ballet what?) which serves as the opening film at this year’s Venice film festival, reports Reuters. One reviewer said the performance “elevates her … to a major star.”

Oh, whatever! We know she is both a star and a capable actress.

In ‘Swan’ the 29-year-old plays a New York ballerina whose obsession with technical perfection takes a heavy toll on mind and body. Nina (Portman’s character) finds herself lost in the professional world and in life when a new member of her dance company threatens to steal the part.

It’s also noted that this is Portman’s first lead role in a long time, and she seems to impress the critics at the festival. “Every film festival benefits hugely from a strong opening film, and they don’t come a lot stronger than Black Swan,” writes David Gritten in Britain’s Daily Telegraph.  The “O” word, has also been heard around the festival since Venice and Toronto film festivals tend to give the heads-up quality films and their makers, and ultimately have an impact on who should get an Oscar nomination here in the states.

Up next, Natalie will also be seen in “Thor.”

So, there! Our girl brings it, BIG TIME!
