Warm, Warmer…., DEAD COLD!
…and cold is the way Nicholas Hoult (as a zombie in the upcoming rom-com “Warm Bodies”) loves it. In his search for cold human take out food, Mr. Hoult comes across hot actress Teresa Palmer. Mr. Hoult took out the competition for her heart by eating her boyfriend’s (Dave Franco, younger brother of James) brains. These brains have an odd effect on him—as begins to experience his victim’s emotions and memories. And one memory he wants to start to experience is to be Ms. Palmer’s paramour. Her love starts to turn him back from a zombie into a real boy.
No word yet if this movie’s a hit, there’ll be a zombie “Pinocchio”—where the wooden puppet turns into a real boy and says, “Mamma mia! If you-a think I’m going to spend my life-a with a passé wooden puppet-maker who makes one sale a year and a cricket that doesn’t shut the f_ _k up, you cray-zeeee!”
One slight problem for Mr. Hoult in “Warm Bodies”—
Her pa is John Malkovich and he’s in charge of destroying all zombies. Great casting so far. No, we really mean it.
Is this the start of a new film called “Eating John Malkovich?” Will a drugged up Lindsay Lohan make a guest appearance by staggering on the set at 1am and saying, “Is this zombie enough for you?” Or, is it the start of a new genre of film—not “romantic-comedy (“rom-com”) but “zombie comedy” (“zom-com?”)
Hollywood will not only watch this film which is based on a YA novel by Isaac Marion because it takes the “zombie movies” genre and turns it on its (chewed-up) ear, but also to see if the audience eats “Warm Bodies” up. Cha-ching!
There, at least two good reasons for it to snag a substantial audience: the young, almost famous actors Nicholas Hoult and Dave Franco.
These poor guys—not only does Dave live in his brother’s shadow, but Mr. Hoult now lives with Jennifer Lawrence (how many hot actresses does this guy get to see?!)—and her shapely shadow.
If the filmmakers want a real audience, do a zombie flick with Jennifer and Nicholas and call it, “Night of the Giving Head”—where being dead in bed finally is a good thing.
The BNH view: This is great casting, and we think “Warm Bodies” will be a huge (yes, we are predicting), bloody hit. The film is directed by Jonathan Levine (“50/50”).
