As if we have not seen enough violence or blurred shots of T&A on network TV or god knows what else being passed on to us as suitable entertainment, suddenly 30 Seconds to Mars is too much for TV?
The band’s new short film, music video for “Hurricane” is apparently a bit too much.
Actor and front man for the band, Jared Leto told Entertainment Weekly, “We always knew there would be some images that would have a tough time getting through, but we didn’t expect this kind of pushback that we’re getting now.”
You can thank Jared for actually posting the rejection letter by an unnamed network on his blog which listed specific scenes from the video that were too sexual or violent for the small screen. And please do read this ridiculous list.
Whaaaatever!!! If we are talking about is offensive or unpleasantly shocking imagery, then there is nothing we have not seen in some recent horror flick, an episode of Cops, or The Housewives of Orange County, or New York, or pick-your-own-trashy-housewife, on Bravo.
“I’m not interested in provocation for provocation’s sake,” our man Leto told EW. “I just think it’s interesting that when you turn on the news or whatever else catches your interest, how much violence and negativity is available out there. As soon as it comes time for sexuality, it’s a big shock that people are sexual beings. It’s an interesting double standard to me.”
Exactly what we are saying, Jared!
A safer, possibly watered down version of the band’s song, includes collaboration with rapper Kanye West…, and let’s face it, this version can never have the same artistic intent or effect as the original, but what’s a band to do?
We must mention that West was not involved in the current “Hurricane” video, but controversy-Kanye’s own “Runaway” video was recently received with great enthusiasm, not a lot of resistance.
As for the next step, Leto says: “I’ve sent him [West] some images and some clips. We’re still plotting and planning, so you never know.”
Keep plotting guys! We want to see the video you intended all to see. Good luck!
